A real dart-throwing target, lined with a cast of human skin. Whoever enters the space of the work faces a real choice, not a symbolic one: observe, throw darts at that skin, or watch someone else do it instead.
It is the same mechanism examined by Philip Zimbardo in the Stanford prison experiment (1971): it took only assigning a role — guard or prisoner — for ordinary, psychologically stable students to begin, within a matter of days, inflicting real suffering, without fully feeling responsible for it. Here the role is freely chosen by the viewer: target, thrower, or audience. No uniform, no external authority imposing the part — and yet, given the chance, someone will still choose to hit that skin, while others will simply stand by and watch without intervening.
Out of Order does not judge whoever throws the dart or whoever merely observes: it simply stages, live, the same question that runs through every act of collective violence — how little it actually takes for a human being to choose to hurt another, or to watch without stopping it.
